The Agreement |
On September 20, 2016, the Italian Ministry for the Environment approved the project entitled “Support to Iran's SMEs upgrading through the Investment Promotion and Technology Transfer in Energy and Environment”, proposed by UNIDO ITPO Italy
The Ministry for Environment contributed to the initiative - which ended in June 2018 - with a co-finance support of 89,775 euros.
This initiative enhanced and strengthened the bilateral collaboration between the Italy and Iran, launched in 2014 by signing the Memorandum of Understanding. The aim of the Memorandum is to encourage the implementation of projects for the protection of the environment and sustainable development, with particular emphasis on energy and climate change issues.
Objectives and results |
The goal of the project was to support the Iranian government in improving and strengthening the competitiveness and the internalization of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) by identifying and promoting sustainable investments and technological transfer opportunities in the field of renewable energy and the environment protection. The project also intended to facilitate and develop international trade networks between SMEs, and strengthened the Iranian institutions capacities operating in the renewable energy and environmental sectors, and promote institutional partnerships.
To attain these objectives, UNIDO ITPO Italy has carried out a scouting activity aimed at identifying sustainable investment opportunities in Iran and has carried the identification and formulation of investment projects in Iran, promoting them through its own companies network and among Italian and international business communities.
As part of the project, in June 2018, UNIDO ITPO Italy hosted, in Rome, an institutional and commercial delegations from Iran who met several Italian stakeholders.
