On November 17th, 2016, at the UN Climate Conference in Marrakech (COP 22), the Italian Ministry of the Environment, Land and Sea (IMELS) and the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Physical Development and (MENRPD) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of vulnerability to climate change, risk management, adaptation and mitigation.

 

    The work plan

The Mid Term Work Plan, approved by the Joint Committee on May 17th, 2017, identifies three main areas of cooperation:

• development of renewable energies which will revert to the national electric system;
• sustainable water management;
• sustainable urban waste collection and treatment.

 

    Ongoing projects

• Supporting Sudan Meteorological Authority (SMA): the project provides a complete package of training activities and expansion of land observation network, in favor of the SMA in order to strengthen the hydro-meteorological network and of climate service.

• Solar pumps for sustainable livelihood: the project deals with a water supply system in 10 rural villages through the use of  solar pumps.
